The First Game

Tyler and Dave, two of my co-workers, got interested in playing Ogre.  So Thursday night we met at the Pitchers and Pints Brew House here in my hometown.  For the first game Tyler and I randomly chose sides, Tyler got the black Ogre and I got the white defense.

Here is my defensive setup

I had a great time learning the rules and just playing the game and enjoying having a good time with friends.

Tyler wisely chose to attack initially close to one of the board edges

I tried to mass my GEVs to try to swarm the Ogre.  I did succeed in taking out his main battery but I only cause minimal damage to his tracks.

One of my GEVs is disabled.  The next turn it became Ogre track grease.

I started moving my infantry, heavy tanks, and missile tanks to engage the ogre.

A bit later in the game Tyler has managed to flank my troops. I just couldn't get enough hits on his tracks to slow him down!:-(

My troops raced as best they could to engage the Ogre before he gets in range of my command post.

The Ogre rams one of my missile tanks. It too the next turn becomes Ogre track lube.

Endgame: Tyler takes out my CP and I concede defeat.

The post game feed.  Bacon Cheddar Cheese Fries, mini Natchitoches meat pies, and an Angry Orchard Hard Cider assuage the sting of defeat.

I had a great time. Thanks to Tyler and Dave for playing.  Dave and Tyler played a second game. Tyler on defense this time and Dave attacking with the Ogre MkIII.  Dave won that game.

I like the Ogre, Pocket Edition because it is a prefect game to play while enjoying a evening with friends and knocking back a few brews.

More to follow soon I hope.

Ogre, Pocket Edition , republished

I found the Ogre, Pocket Edition game online the other day at Steve Jackson Games,www.sjgames.com .  I had owned and greatly enjoyed playing the original edition of this game back in the late 1970s and early 1980s.  Steve Jackson Games is offering it for the original price of $2.95.  I immediately ordered it and impatiently waited for it to arrive.

Finally, it came!

Here's a view of the back of the header card

The contents includes: the rule book, 2 counter sheets, the map, and a Ziploc bag

Here are views of the front and back of the counter sheet.

So much geeky fun for less than $3 (minus shipping :-( !)  I can hardly wait to play.
